Juan Campos and the Moving Forward Slate Re-elected

On October 20th, Juan Campos and the Moving Forward Slate were re-elected by acclimation. A slate had announced one week ago that they would be running against Juan and his team, but they were nowhere to be found at the General Membership Meeting on Sunday.

A packed house of Local 705 members dressed in blue Moving Forward Slate shirts turned out to watch the nominations for Officers, Trustees and Business Agents. Cheers rang out as all eleven Moving Forward Slate candidates were nominated without opposition and declared winners of the election by the Independent Election Supervisor.

Sunday’s meeting represented an affirmation of the present, reflections on the past, and important first milestones that signify the future.

Retiring Recording Secretary Joe Bakes read the minutes for the last time, and spoke to the members about his reflections on how Local 705 has moved forward over his career. Joe’s 20 years of service to the local as officer and all he has done for the membership was recognized with a long and thunderous standing ovation.

There was a moving tribute, complete with bagpipes, in memory of fallen brother Scott Rein. Scott was a long time Trustee and Business Agent for Local 705, who recently passed unexpectedly.

Kim Obney was elected Recording Secretary, becoming the first Woman in Local 705’s history elected to the position. Eddie Vallejo, Rick Rohe, and Kevin Moore were elected for the first time to the position of Trustee. Al Wimunc, Mike DeVega, and Bill O’Connor were elected for the first time as Business Agents. Juan Campos, Ken Emanuelson, Greg Foster, and Michael Jordan were re-elected to their positions.

Local 705 has never been in a stronger position than it is today. Under the leadership of Juan Campos, 705 has been earned the reputation as the most militant and powerful Local in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The Moving Forward team bargains hard and takes on employers when they mistreat our members.

“Thank you to the membership of Local 705 for entrusting our team to another 3 year term," said Juan Campos. “We look forward to building on our successes, and Moving Local 705 Forward into the future.”
